Hedging Your Options for the Cloud

With the second decade of the millennium now just weeks away, I thought I’d offer up some possibilities for the cloud computing market as it continues to evolve. Cloud services — whether infrastructure, platform or software — share similarities with other on-demand, pay-per-use offerings such as airlines or car rentals. But what’s past in those industries may be prologue for the cloud. Here are some key aspects of those services that could become integral to the cloud in the ..read more

Strand Consult to iPhone users: You’re delusional and a big, fat liar too

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Odds and ends, iPhone

In a report that is sure to bring cheer to legions of Verizon Droid owners, Strand Consult is saying that all of us who have purchased iPhones are delusional liars.

CNET’s Chris Matyszczyk reported in his Technically Incorrect column that the Danish marketing consultants posted an article titled “How will psychologists describe the iPhone syndrome in the future?” Among other things, the article describes the similarity between iPhone users defending their (according to ..read more

The Google Phone identifies as an early replicant

The Gruber brings us this bit of news: the new GPhone identifies as Nexus One in browsing logs. Five points to anyone who can remember what the Nexus models were? In Blade Runner the Nexus Six models were the “rogue” replicants and someone – not saying who – was a Nexus Seven model.

So is Google saying they’re the Tyrell Corporation, working on the first off-world employees for their future colonies? Or is someone just playing a funny.

Week in gaming: exploit ban-happiness edition

Microsoft has begun issuing temporary bans to players taking advantage of an exploit in Modern Warfare 2, while Infinity Ward works on a patch to fix the issue. While the servers may be kept slightly cleaner for the efforts, the amount of control Microsoft holds over owners of their consoles, and the arbitrary way they are able to wield it, is troubling.

With many platforms and little oversight, clones ..read more

N3L Optics stores go high-tech

I was shopping for a new pair of sunglasses and I’ve been told that some N3L stores (an Oakley spin-off) had gone high-tech with large touch displays and more, so I went to check one out (Hillsdale Mall, San Mateo CA). There were three things that you usually don’t find in optics store: a large touch display to browse products, an messaging station to send a photo of you with the glasses so that your spouse/significant other can approve your selection, ..read more

Holiday apps that’ll make your Grinchmas merry

My wife is probably one of the biggest Grinch fans out there. Yes, we have Grinch holiday decorations and end up watching the movies several times throughout the holiday season. We’re sitting at 3 times already… I’m praying we don’t pass 5. It’s not that I don’t like The Grinch — the animated or Jim Carey version — I’m usually not a multiple viewing kind of guy.

To help fuel her love — or obsession — the ..read more

So the Google Phone Is Real

Yes Virginia, there really is a Google Phone! And no, I don’t mean all those Android-powered devices, but instead a Google-branded phone that is made by an original equipment maker. The company has started giving away these devices to its employees, who started tweeting about it last night, and the company had to make an announcement this morning. In a blog post on the Android Blog, Mario Queiroz, Vice President, Product Management writes:

We recently came up with the concept of ..read more

New Mega Man 10 info- Release date, boss reveal, and more

Some people are claiming to have the Mega Man 10 issue of Nintendo Power. I think they’re telling the truth. Either the image above is an extremely well crafted fake, or that’s something from the magazine.

That “something” is Commando Man. He joins Sheep Man as Mega Man 10’s other currently announced boss. What do you think so far? Personally, I’m on the fence. His “art” looks pretty unoriginal, like a cross between Search Man and Napalm Man, but his in-game ..read more
