GPS Tracking Key Pro Review

Hacked Gadgets was sent a GPS Tracking Key Pro by Land Air Sea to review. There are many GPS device types available these days, this one acquires a GPS signal and records the time and location of the device to internal memory. Later the system is connected to a computer and the data is retrieved from the device. There are two ways to view the data in text form, or you can view the data on Google Earth. Why is the FDA holding up delivery of an Apple computer?

The Food and Drug Administration is holding up the delivery of MG Siegler’s iMac because they apparently think it is an apple, not an Apple.

I don’t want to believe that either UPS or the U.S. Government are so stupid as to think that my Apple computer is actually an apple, but I can’t come up with any other explanation (and neither can people on Twitter). On my UPS tracking shipment screen right now all I see is “Exception” followed by ..read more

Look Inside a Heating Pad

Ever wonder what is in one of those heating pads? Well you’re in luck, I have one here that stopped working. Of course I didn’t chuck it in the garbage, I took it apart and see what made it tick. Overall it is exactly what I expected, a few thermal cut out devices, one had obviously over heated and opened the circuit. It must have been hot for awhile before it disconnected the power though since the heat shrink and ..read more

About a DROID: a review of Motorola’s newest smartphone

Verizon Wireless is the US’s largest wireless carrier, and it’s renowned for its good network coverage. On the claimed prices of cellphones

Cellular carriers claim that their contracts offset heavy subsidies on handsets. They claim they’d love to sell phones contract-free at retail–you’re just not interested. But there’s a problem with this story: these “full price” handsets are grossly overpriced, suggesting that they want consumers in the contract rat trap after all. As hard as it is to prove, discount handsets often reveal the absurdity of list pricing. For example, Motorola’s Renew, free with a 2-year agreement, is listed as $160 full-price ..read more

Giving thanks: tech trends (and other things) Ars is thankful for

For those living in the US, this time of year brings visions of bargain-priced gadgets and big box stores opening their doors to throngs of shoppers at some ungodly hour. But Black Friday is always preceded by the one day where we get to sit down, watch some football (hand-egg?), and tuck into some turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. Oh, and we also give thanks for the good ..read more

CD-ROM Door Lock

This is an interesting project that uses an old CD-ROM drive to make a CD-ROM Door Lock. Granted the system isn’t very secure however it would be trivial to connect it to a real deadbolt. It sounds like the system is voice activated but it is just the inventor asking his son to control the system while it was being recorded.

"The circuit board in the middle is an H-bridge circuit I built to allow the motor to move in both ..read more
